250 bhp, 2470 cc four -cylinder five-speed preselector gearbox, independent front suspension, De Dion rear suspension, four-wheel disc brakes.
Beginning with the British Grand Prix at Aintree in `55 thsi Connaught was first piloted by Tony Rolt, who is perhaps most famous for winning the 1953 24 Hours of LeMans with Duncan Hamilton in a C-Type. After its brief turn with sports car and Formula 1 driver Jack Fairman, the car was driven by another Le Mans winner, Peter Walker. Experienced Grand Prix drive rReg Parnell piloted the car into 1956 before Walker got behind the wheel once more for the Grand Prix in Sicily. Its period racing history ended with Verdun Edwards at Aintree in 1958.
More recently, the car has been raced successfully in Historic Grand Prix Cars Association (HGPCA) events and is welcome at all major historic races, including monaco and Goodwood. In fact, it has won HGPCA pre- 1961 races on several occasions as well as its category at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, whre it has participated from 2004 to 2009. It raced at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix in 2006 and 2008, finishing fourth in its second appearance.
